House CR-Omnibus Funds FHIP at $40.1 Million for FY15 and Preserves Key Fair Housing Rules

National Fair Housing Alliance – Press Release – 12/11/14 – Late Tuesday, night, the House of Representatives filed a spending package, or “CR-Omnibus” that includes $53.8 billion for Transportation, Housing and Urban Development keeps funding for FHIP at $40.1 million, keeping the program at level funding for FY15!

The CR-Omnibus also excludes the Paul Gosar amendment which passed the House’s bill back in June prohibiting HUD from finalizing the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule, or the Scott Garrett amendment prohibiting the Department of Justice from taking any enforcement actions using HUD’s final disparate impact regulation!

The spending package funds all federal agencies for the remainder of FY15 but freezes spending and policy directives for the Department of Homeland Security though February 27, 2015, forcing a fight on President’ Obama’s executive order on immigration in the new Congress.

The CR-Omnibus includes several compromises for both Republicans and Democrats, including the scaling back of certain provisions of the Dodd-Frank financial reform legislation and Obama’s climate change plan, and increases in funding for many domestic spending programs.  The House will likely vote to approve the package this Thursday, and get it over to the Senate which will have to pass a short stop-gap resolution extending the deadline to approve the spending package and send it to President Obama who has not said what his position will be on the spending package.
