Faces of Fair Housing: Angela Zmich

Angela Zmich, Outreach Intern

In this week’s spotlight, we are talking with our Outreach Intern, Angela Zmich. Angela plays an important role in the Fair Housing Center’s outreach work, and is your go-to when registering for fair housing trainings and events. Check out our interview with Angela to learn more about her dedication to fair housing!

What brought you to the Fair Housing Center?
I am a recent graduate of nearby Cleveland State, where I majored in Urban Studies, but my passion for the subject of housing stems from personal experiences and a calling to help others. When I saw a job opening, I saw a great opportunity to serve my community and work in my field of interest.

How long have you worked here?
I started working here in June of 2018.

Can you briefly describe your role at the Fair Housing Center?
My current role is Outreach Intern. I do things such as table events, carry out community outreach initiatives and perform administrative tasks for the Education & Outreach team.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is working together with the Education & Outreach team to generate new and creative ideas to reach and educate our community. Our skills and experiences complement one another well. We’re a great team!

What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I’m into arts & crafts, gardening, video games and spending time with family.

If you could choose one fair housing issue that you wish people knew more about, what would it be?
One fair housing issue that I wish people knew more about is source of income protections, especially in association with Housing Choice Vouchers. I think that there are far too many misconceptions about this program, its recipients, and low-income tenants in general. Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to live, regardless of their income level or source.
